Over 70% of Americans “Resolve” To Diet In 2007,
According to OomphDiet.com and Decision Analyst, Inc.

(Arlington, Texas) If this year is anything like last year, over 70% of Americans will attempt some sort of diet in 2007, according to a recent national survey sponsored by OomphDiet (www.OomphDiet.com). The survey, conducted by Decision Analyst throughout the whole year of 2006, also revealed that dieting behavior is remarkably similar across the U.S. The percentages of adults who have dieted in the past 12 months varied only a percentage point or two across the major regions of the country.

But gender is a different story. Women are much more likely to follow a diet, especially diets related to weight control, as shown below:

The fact that over 70% of us were on some type of diet in 2006 demonstrates that we are a “diet nation” according to Jonathan Thomas, CEO of OomphDiet (www.OomphDiet.com), an online diet service and diet community.

“This is an astonishingly high percentage,” Mr. Thomas said, “and it shows that even though so many of us are unsuccessful at the attempt, we keep trying to lose weight or improve our health through dieting.”

To make it easier to manage dieting, the OomphDiet plan (www.OomphDiet.com) includes daily calorie tracking, health recommendations, dieting advice, and guided exercise programs.

2007 may prove to be a record-setting year for the number of Americans attempting to diet, and many of these folks will need lots of help if they are to be successful.

Methodology

This Diet survey was conducted via Decision Analyst's American Consumer Opinion® panel (www.acop.com) on a continuous basis throughout 2006 using a nationally representative, statistically balanced sample of 3,800 respondents. The margin of statistical error is less than two percentage points, plus or minus, at a 99% confidence level.
