Worker's Are Less Nervous About Their Jobs
According To Decision Analyst's Job Anxiety Index
Arlington, Texas (October 5, 2005) - In a surprising move, the Decision Analyst
Job Anxiety Index actually fell to 18.5 in September. Despite the devastation
in the Gulf region from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, consumers were less
worried about the state of the job market than in previous months.
The Index reflects the percentage of unemployed and underemployed workers, plus
those who are "very worried" about losing their job. The survey strictly looks
at employment status and job security.
"The slight improvement in the Job Anxiety Index is not all that surprising,"
said Jerry W. Thomas, President and CEO of Decision Analyst, a marketing
research and marketing consulting firm. "The full impact of Hurricanes Katrina
and Rita have not filtered through the economy yet, and the thousands of
hurricane evacuees are most likely not settled enough to be available for
surveys."
Methodology
The Decision Analyst Job Anxiety Index is based on a monthly Internet survey of
several thousand households balanced by gender, age, and geography, conducted
from the 20th to the 27th of each month. The Job Anxiety Index is immediately
calculated from unemployment, part-time employment, and job security, using a
sophisticated model. The result is a snapshot of current U.S.
employment/anxiety, as seen through the eyes of representative consumers.
Decision Analyst also conducts concurrent surveys in Canada, the U.K., Germany,
France, Italy, Netherlands, Mexico, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, and Australia.
