Job Anxiety Continues To Grow
ARLINGTON, Texas As layoffs continue to be announced across the nation,
America's workers are beginning to feel less secure in their own jobs,
according to a recent Internet survey by Decision Analyst, Inc., a leading
international marketing research firm.
For most of the past year, the percentage of U.S. adults very
worried or somewhat worried about staff reduction where they
work has hovered around the 25% level, but in the last few months the
percentage has jumped to the 30% level, a dramatic increase.
In the most recent month measured (January, 2001), the percentage of very
worried or somewhat worried increased to 31.2% of U.S.
workers, the highest level in the past 18 months.
The economy has been strong for so long that workers are not accustomed to
worrying about their jobs, said Jerry W. Thomas, President/CEO of
Decision Analyst, Inc. The January report, however, shows that anxiety is
continuing to grow. It also suggests that if widespread layoffs continue, job
security is going to become a major source of concern for U.S. workers.
The company is a world leader in the conduct of marketing research over the
Internet, and maintains over 3 million consumers in its
Internet panels.
Decision Analyst's Internet survey of 2,012 workers was statistically balanced
and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3%.
